"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see."

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
As an artist, I enjoy creating artwork that has a deep personal meaning to me, yet still possesses universal appeal. Creating such work helps me to operate through my own creative process while bringing insight to others. The content of my art focuses on the beauty of both the mundane and the functional. I like for my works to possess the human element, whether or not there is an actual human figure present within them. I achieve this facet by evoking a sense of intimacy, narrative, and history within my art. To further the sense of intimacy and history, I strive to have my hand and process as an artist seen within the work. I accomplish this by spending time with the work, slowly developing it, allowing previous decisions made in the process to remain present. This method of working creates an emotional connection toward the work and subject matter, which is then translated to the viewer. I appreciate making realistic paintings comprised of abstract qualities. I challenge myself to create works rich with substance which address the history and development of art itself. The subject matter of my artwork often delineates scenes from my personal life. This reiterates my notion that common spectacles seen within everyday life are capable of evoking immeasurable beauty, if only the observer takes the time to contemplate them.
